I found my passion for writing when I realized I was too nervous and awkward to explain myself directly. My experiences of childhood anxiety and existentialism weren't unique, however there aren't a lot of eloquent ways one can communicate in elementary school. Which is why, after becoming obsessed with Darren Shan's Cirque du Freak series in second grade, I figured the best way to show others my perspective was through storytelling. I would write dark little short stories to read for the class, fight for my plot lines to be used during play time at day care. It was self expression, sure, but there was also a desperation to connect on my own terms, in ways my neurodivergent brain could handle. Something about taking my turbulent emotions and abstracting them into grand fictions made them easier to process and the real world less overwhelming to face.
Of course as time has passed, I've met others who share this view and have been lucky to find community with poets, novelists, comics, spoken word artists, video game developers, photographers... the list goes on. All storytellers in their own right. I've found a love for over analyzing the weird media I consume and a need to share the results with whoever is willing to listen.
Which brings us to this blog!
An assortment of thoughts on all things creative and the impact stories have on our lives.
Regan Rambles because I want to share and enlarge my world.
